Weather Update

Through A.D. 2008 December 29:

Days with snow cover: 048
Days with complete snow cover: 24
Total snowfall: 066 centimeters
Maximum snow depth: 25 centimeters
Greatest snow event: 20 centimeters
Lowest temperature: -15º Celsius (05º Fahrenheit)

Two-thousand eight marked our first white Christmas since 2003. Unfortunately, it was pretty anti-climatic after the overwhelming majority of snow melted on Christmas Eve. At daybreak on December 24, snow coverered the ground to a uniform depth of 10 inches. At daybreak on December 25, snow covered the ground (in most places) to a depth of no more than three inches. In fact, we had less than 90% snow cover and the average snow depth did not exceed 1 inch. Still, I guess it did count as our first "white Christmas" since I moved up here. By the end of the day December 27, only a handful of patches of snow were visible from my house.

Temperatures on December 27 and 28 were in the upper 50s Fahrenheit.
